The Welcome Centre

The Welcome Centre in Huddersfield provides practical help for individuals and families in crisis by supplying essential food, toiletries, home starter packs, bedding and clothing to anyone in immediate need.

In December 2010 One 17 employees, Caroline, Nicky and Katie, spent a wonderful day doing a mega Christmas shop to help provide essentials, and also some Christmas extras (such as fresh foods, cakes, mince pies and children’s gifts) for people in crisis over the festive period.

This day launched the One 17 Design Charitable Trust and the beginning of our involvement with the Welcome Centre. We now support them on a regular basis with a monthly donation to buy some essential items and help with the running costs of the project. In addition we have also started work in kind with the Welcome Centre to develop their own website and improve their promotional literature.

for very small overheads it touches the lives of so many people in such a positive way…

The thing we really like about the Welcome Centre is that for very small overheads it touches the lives of so many people in such a positive way, both in terms of giving and receiving. Almost 100% of the essentials supplied are donated by local people and well over 50% of the people they support only need 2 or 3 packs of essentials, to help them over difficult times, before they are self sufficient again.
